Pen off @ 7:23 AM Czech zoo sends rare Northern White rhinos to Kenya.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8423243.stm Four rare Northern White rhinos have been flown from a Czech zoo to Kenya, in a desperate attempt to save the species from extinction. Animal experts hope the rhinos - two males and two females - will breed in their natural habitat in Africa. Only eight Northern White rhinos are known to survive worldwide, all of them in captivity: six in the Czech Republic and two in the US. The last four living in the wild in Africa have not been seen since 2006. The article also says that returning these animals to their natural habitat, they were hoping that the females would become more fertile, and the males will be interested in the females. So that they could continue to reproduce. This article made known to me that, the importance of the reproduction process for the white rhinos as the number of its species left is very limited. Before reading the article, i thought that they were normally producing their offspring instead of being enclosed in the zoo, not letting them to be freely moving around in their natural habitat. |
